Report builder
When the ready-made reports are not enough you build the view yourself: source, filter, grouping and measures - saved under a name.
"I need a different view"
This comes up in every customer meeting and the answer is usually the same: wait for a developer. However long the list of ready reports is, the view someone wants is not on it.
Building a table or a chart is possible in many systems. The gap is elsewhere: the view stays in one person's browser - it has no name, it is not shared, it is not in the menu. It never becomes the organisation's knowledge.
A view becomes a document
The user picks the source, the filter, the row and column grouping and what is summed, then names the result. The report stays in the list and is opened next time, not rebuilt.
Who may see it is chosen too. But a report opens no door: the query runs as the user, so data they cannot see is not in the report either. Two people can open the same report and see different figures - that is correct behaviour.

Most often asked
Who can build a report?
Every user runs the ready reports; building a new one is an administrator's job - a list of technical field names is meaningless to an ordinary user.
Can a report expose extra data?
No. The query runs with the user's own rights; the report builds the view, not the data.
